Ulcers are more common than you might think, and they can cause lasting damage to your body!
Ulcers can form on many different parts of your body for many different reasons. And because ulcers can cause nerve damage, some people might not even realize they’re suffering from one at all!
At Ozark Regional Vein & Artery Center, we strive to help our patients in any way we can. We work to identify and resolve a plethora of health issues, including ulcers. We’ve trained for years to become a resource in wellness, and we want you to feel better.
It’s possible you’re struggling with pain, but you’re not even sure if you have an arterial ulcer at all. That’s okay; we have lots of information on what may cause ulcers, and we know how arterial ulcer treatment can offer relief.
Ulcers All Over
Picture an ulcer. When you hear that word, you may picture a stress-related pain in your stomach. But arterial ulcers aren’t actually caused by stress, and they can be found in many places all over the body.
Typically, arterial ulcers can be found in the lower leg, ankle, heel, toe, or arch of your foot, but you can technically find them anywhere in the body. Foot ulcers are particularly troublesome ulcers that can even necessitate an amputation.
You may notice some visual symptoms, including open sores. The area with the ulcer might feel cold because of low blood flow. Ulcers can also cause leg pain at night.
Getting Rid of the Ulcers
Since ulcers are caused in large part by poor circulation, the cure is apparent: We need to get that blood pumping again!
To do this, we’ll insert a small wire through the ankle or the groin, and this wire will travel through the arteries. This wire is equipped with four microscopic cameras so the doctor can measure their progress.
Blood flow is impeded by plaque buildup, and this wire can clear that plaque so the blood can resume making its way through the arteries. With proper blood flow, your body can more effectively heal wounds and fight infections, helping to heal and prevent future ulcers.
Avoiding Ulcers in the First Place
Maybe you’re reading this and you don’t have an ulcer. Or, maybe you’ve already had an ulcer, and it’s since been treated. That’s good news, because there are ways to prevent the formation of any ulcers at all.
It’s important to eat healthy foods and exercise often. Many of the people with arterial ulcers also have diabetes, so preventing or managing your diabetes will significantly lower the risk of developing an ulcer.
You should also be careful when consuming tobacco or alcohol. Excessive amounts of either can result in several different health concerns, including arterial ulcers.
Take the Next Steps
You may find the above symptoms and causes all too familiar, and now you’re convinced that you require an arterial ulcer treatment. However, it’s essential to have your concerns looked at by a professional. That’s where we come in. Ozark Regional Vein & Artery Center offers consultations, and depending on the cause of your ailment, we’ll decide which treatments can help.
