With any type of medical procedure, one of the primary concerns people will have is the recovery process following vein treatment. At Ozark Regional Vein & Artery Center, we’re constantly educating patients on the benefits of our procedures. However, we also pride ourselves on being transparent about what people can expect before, during, and after their visit to our clinic in Rogers.
While you won’t walk out feeling good as new right away, vein treatment recovery is relatively simple. The process won’t be long or arduous, but there will be certain steps to follow in order to gain the full benefits of your treatment.
Today, we’ll outline those steps in-depth as we detail everything you can expect during your vein treatment recovery process.
Your Procedure
There are numerous potential treatments available at Ozark Regional Vein & Artery Center. Patients turn to our expert staff to help them treat everything from spider and varicose veins, to deep vein thrombosis and vein disease.
Certified professionals, using the most advanced technology available, perform all of our treatments. Some treatments will be more intense than others, depending on factors such as patient preference, provider recommendation, severity of the vein issue, and more.
However, one aspect that remains consistent across all treatments is their convenience. Regardless of your procedure, you can expect to be in and out of our office within 30 minutes to an hour and a half. In fact, many people schedule their procedures to be performed over their lunch break!
Even though the treatments are relatively quick, however, our quality standards remain high. You will be taken care of the entire time in a comfortable, welcoming environment by an experienced team that’s performed hundreds of procedures with excellent results.
Post-Procedure Recovery
So you’ve gone in for your procedure during your lunch break at work, or while running errands during a weekday afternoon. The timing is convenient, but you might be wondering what happens after?
Do I need to plan for someone to pick me up, or do I need to take time away from my busy schedule?
The answer to both questions is no! There is no downtime associated with any of our procedures, whether it’s cosmetic or medical. You may experience some bruising and pain in the treatment area, but this is normal with most medical treatments. The pain and bruising is similar to what you would experience with a flu shot, and patients are welcome to take over-the-counter pain relievers following treatment if they wish.
Beyond that, all of our patients are free to continue with their normal daily activities after treatment. Whether that’s going back to work, running errands, cleaning up around the house, or playing with the kids, you’ll be good to go right when you leave our office in Rogers.
With that being said, there are important recovery instructions that we’ll ask you to follow after your vein procedure. These include:
- Walk 5-10 minutes every hour you’re awake.
- Don’t lift over 20 pounds.
- Wear a compression hose for a provider-recommended amount of time (this will depend on the specific procedure).
Though we’ll ask you to follow these instructions carefully, the good news is that they’re only temporary. Usually, patients can expect to follow these instructions for 10 to 14 days following their treatment. Additionally, each patient will receive a list of phone numbers they can contact with any questions or concerns, including Dr. Haney’s personal phone number.
Compression Stockings
Compression stockings are one of the most essential tools for your recovery following vein treatment. This is especially true for people with varicose veins and other deep vein issues.
When you have veins damaged beyond a cosmetic level, your blood will actually pool in your legs and struggle to flow upward to the heart. This causes painful symptoms within your legs, as well as the potential for tissue damage and even the risk of infection.
Compression stockings help with these issues by applying pressure to the deeper tissue within your legs. This pressure helps prevent the buildup of blood in your legs and allows it to move more effectively throughout the body and back to the heart. Additionally, compression stockings can help reduce any swelling or pain following treatment.
Types of Compression Stockings
Ozark Regional Vein & Artery Center carries an inventory of multiple different compression stockings with lengths designed to treat your specific vein issues. These include:
- Below-the-knee stockings
- Thigh-high stockings
- Full-length stockings
The length of your stockings will vary based on the exact location of your vein issues. For instance, a person needing vein treatment specifically in their calf likely won’t need a thigh-high or full-length stocking.
Additionally, the type of pressure that your stocking provides will also play a major role in its effectiveness. We measure the specific amount of pressure in mmHg, which stands for millimeters of mercury.
For those with spider veins or are on the lower end of the CEAP scale in terms of vein severity, you’ll likely need a stocking that’s lower in mmHg. On the other side, people with more serious vein issues, or concerns about blood clots or deep-vein thrombosis, will probably need stockings with a higher mmHg.
Importance of Proper Fit
Having a pair of compression hoses that fit correctly is crucial for vein treatment recovery. Having a pair that is too long or loose around your legs will prevent the stockings from applying the pressure needed for proper recovery. If your pair is too long, it’s important to contact our office rather than fold the stockings or roll them, as that can lead to problems with circulation.
A pair that’s too snug or suffocating, on the other hand, can lead to issues such as pressure sores, skin damage, or problems with blood circulation. If you notice redness or irritation at the site of your compression stockings, this may be a sign that your pair is too tight, or that you may be allergic to the material.
Also, it’s important to smooth out your compression stockings as you put them on in order to prevent wrinkle or bunching. Stockings that don’t lay flat against your legs will prevent you from getting the best possible results from your treatment and recovery.
During your vein treatment process at Ozark Regional Vein & Artery Center, our team will work with you in order to find the proper type and fit of compression stockings based on your unique needs.
When you receive your compression stockings, it’s crucial that you wear them as much as possible in order to get the maximum recovery benefits.
If you have questions about your compression stockings related to use or insurance information, our team will happily assist and provide the answers you need.
