Deep Venous Stenting in Rogers, Arkansas

Stenting DVTs in the iliac veins

Deep Venous Stenting is often used for specific patients that are at risk of a DVT

Dr. Stout is highly skilled and experienced in endovenous stenting as the area's only board certified vascular surgeon.

Our team uses deep venous stenting when necessary for patients that are experiencing a blockage in their iliofemoral veins. The main objective of this procedure is to relieve any pain associated with a DVT and prevent further complications that could potentially become deadly.

Similar to arterial stents, the larger venous stents can be placed in the iliac vein to open up a vein that’s narrowed.

The stents Dr. Stout uses are typically alloy, mesh tubes that are very flexible and long-lasting.

A deep venous stenting procedure in Rogers, Arkansas can be life-saving. DVTs left untreated can cause shortness of breath, chest pain, leading to a PE (Pulmonary embolism) which can be deadly.

A venous stent is made to be a permanent placement in the vein so that a blockage is never an issue again in that area. Stents can be removed with surgery, but it’s usually not recommended and difficult to do.

Pre-Procedure

As with all of our procedure appointments, we ask that you arrive at least 30 minutes before your scheduled time. Our staff will get you checked in, provide a personal room for you to change into a surgical gown, and confirm important health information with you. If necessary, our team members will shave the access area and prepare it for surgery. Once everything is in place, we will administer a mild sedative to relax you.

The Deep Venous Stenting Procedure

Once fully sedated, Dr. Stout will make an incision typically in the groin or upper leg to gain access for the catheter. When inserted, the mesh stent has yet to be deployed so it's as thin as the catheter wire until it reaches the blockage or DVT. Our team will use x-ray and ultrasound technology to verify the blockage and stent are in the same location. Once Dr. Stout has pinpointed this location in the deep venous system, he will expand the stent which opens the walls of the vein and allows blood to flow through properly again. He will then remove the catheter and stitch up the incision.

Post-Procedure

We will keep you in our clinic to monitor your vitals, blood pressure, and incision for at least an hour after the procedure. Anytime anesthesia is involved in a procedure, we ask that you refrain from driving and signing any important legal documents for at least 24 hours afterwards. We strongly encourage no heavy lifting, running, straining, or pushing for the next 3 days. Post-care instructions will be given before you go.

Dr. Haney and his staff are the best. I have had an excellent outcome with my procedure with very little discomfort. The worst part is wearing the compression hose, but it's only for a short time! I will definitely recommend Dr. Haney to my friends and family!
