Sclerotherapy is known as the gold standard of visible vein treatment for many reasons. It is far easier on your body than older methods. In addition, it can be used on both spider veins and on varicose veins depending on their size. In our clinic, we have found that sclerotherapy can help our patients look better and feel more confident about their looks. However, you may be interested to learn that we offer more than one kind of sclerotherapy. Although traditional sclerotherapy is used most often by the majority of our patients, we do sometimes find that foam sclerotherapy is a great solution for some of our patients with specific venous needs.
What is Traditional Sclerotherapy?
In traditional sclerotherapy, the main problematic vein will be injected with a special liquid solution. The entire process is quick, and you should be comfortable throughout the process. The solution is designed to be safe for your body but irritate the venous walls. As a result, the vein swells shut, cutting off blood supply and pushing the blood into other healthier veins. Because blood flow is stemmed, the vein will eventually die and you will see it gradually fade away.
What is Foam Sclerotherapy?
Foam sclerotherapy uses a very similar process to get great results. In fact, from your perspective, the process may seem just about the same. However, the material that we inject into your vein will be different. Rather than a liquid, the solution is a foam that expands and displaces the blood inside the vein. This once again causes the vein to die and be reabsorbed by your body.
